Technology Tuesday

Recently, a team of University of Colorado Engineering students dropped off a remote-controlled train that can be controlled with a head switch for our friend Toby, who lives at the Charles Family SmartHome. Not only can Toby control it remotely with a head switch, but here's the coolest part: track? There is no track. The train uses line sensors in its nose that allows it to simply follow along a strip of black electrical tape. Easy to set up, easy to break down. All aboard!

Technology Tuesday

Imagine! SmartHome residents John, Rae, Lana, and Anthony are all using a picture and audio based iPad journaling tool created by Imagine! staff members. The tool is helping the residents to develop better skills in sharing what is happening in their lives, beyond basic conversation such as “How are you” and “I am fine.” These new skills are opening doors for greater mutual understanding between residents, staff members, and family members.

Mandy and Stacey - Movie Stars

Last September, we shared a few photos of Imagine! SmartHome residents Mandy and Stacey filming of a video for the Longmont Department of Public Safety about accessible parking spaces and the importance of citizens respecting those spaces and leaving them open for those who really need to use them. Well, the video is complete, and we are delighted to share it with you today.

Can’t see the video? Click here.

We’re not sure if there is a category in the Academy Awards for local Public Service Videos, but if so, we’re voting for Mandy and Stacy for “Best Actresses.”

On December 15, Imagine! launched a new pilot project to test an online fleet tracking tool, hosted by Verizon Networkfleet. Vehicles used throughout our CORE/Labor Source and Out & About programs are participating in this project. This means that during this pilot project, more than half of the vehicle fleet that we operate is now monitored 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

This program allows us to track our fleet, locate the nearest vehicle to a specific location to better maximize fleet utilization, gather data to map and test more efficient travel routes, as well as providing 24/7 roadside assistance. This tool also provides data regarding current engine diagnostic trouble codes, fuel economy, greenhouse gas emissions records, odometer readings, and records details of all trips that each vehicle makes. One unique use of this monitoring tool is that we’re currently sharing vehicle diagnostic trouble codes via text and email alerts with the mechanics who maintain our fleet, to help prevent avoidable vehicle breakdowns for staff and people accepting services from Imagine!.

This program allows real-time analysis of all aspects of fleet management. Based on this year’s performance, Imagine! may choose to expand this technology to include the entire fleet in FY17.
